JEANNE'S REVIEW

All of this began, on May 2, 2008 with Marvel Cinematic Universe's IRON MAN, to huge success. Since then, Marvel Studios has released 22 films, six of which have grossed over $1 billion each, achieved critical acclaim and even Oscar nominations for Best Picture. Now we have the end of the line for the Avengers --- and it's a doozy!

AVENGERS: ENDGAME is the follow-up to AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, the top-grossing film of 2018. It stars everyone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which that, in and of itself, makes it a See It Now! for David and me. INFINITY WAR was the beginning of the end and ENDGAME moves the goalpost to its finality.

After leaving us at the end of INFINITY WAR with half of the Marvel Cinematic Universe gone, the folks at Marvel determined that they had to shoot ENDGAME before AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR was even released. Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley were tasked with the challenge of developing a script that was both creative and believable --- and they succeed beyond what most fans of MCU will expect.

ENDGAME not only boasts a cast of thousands --- and most importantly ALL of the MCU characters we have to come to know and LOVE --- but the execution of the story is true and pure. We adore these characters and we want the best for them --- ENDGAME succeeds in making that happen --- mostly.

There are way too many points of interest to describe --- and I won't even try. It would be grotesquely unfair to give ANYTHING away --- so David and I will abide by that promise. But, trust us --- especially me, since David isn't really a true fan (though he did manage to stay awake and love it) --- you don't want to miss this! And PLEASE --- do NOT wait to watch this at home. I don't care how big your TV is --- half the fun is seeing this with an appreciative audience!

AVENGERS: ENDGAME is beyond your wildest dreams --- a charming, hilarious and often poignant source of IMMENSE entertainment! You will NOT be disappointed.

Opinion: Strong See It Now!

DAVID'S REVIEW

As we mentioned in our sparring video review, we are not at liberty to reveal any of the many surprises in AVENGERS: ENDGAME. But in case you are a devoted fan of the late Stan Lee and his Marvel superheroes, suffice to say that "hail, hail --- the gang's all here!" In other words, if you have a favorite character, chances are pretty good you will see him/her/it in this ambitious extravaganza.

What we can reveal is that two major characters are given dramatic physical transitions that are both fascinating and hilarious. The movie has plenty of laugh-out-loud humor and enough visual effects to satisfy even the most jaded of moviegoers.

Our screening at the Disney Studios in Burbank, California was a raucous event. Some 300 critics and industry affiliates hooted and hollered at every turn. And when there was a serious moment --- the script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley has more than a few --- you could hear the proverbial pin drop.

You can take it from me, as I am decidedly not a devout fan of superhero films. As much as I loved Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, give me a film like ROOM anytime (you may recall, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress in that marvelous 2015 movie). However --- if I think that AVENGERS: ENDGAME is an amazing and wholly entertaining event, imagine what the enthusiastic fan base of MCU will think?

I am always curious about the cost of a major blockbuster. In the case of AVENGERS: ENDGAME, I have seen budget estimates as high as $600 million. I have no doubt that this film will surpass the current record holder for box office receipts --- AVATAR --- which still stands at a shade below $2.8 billion.
